The winner of this year’s Blood Orange Sorbet class was London-based Mediterranean Ices.
Mediterranean Ices was born when Ignazio Cardazzone bought the factory he worked in when he was younger. When asked what inspired him to start his business, Ignazio said “During the 70s and 80s I spent most of my childhood helping my father out in his ice cream van, whilst also working in an ice cream factory in Tooting- Diliberto's. By the age of 17 I bought my first ice cream van. By the time I was 29 I bought the factory that I worked in as a young lad and this is where Mediterranean Ices all began!”
Ignazio entered his sorbet into the National Ice Cream Competition for the first time this year, and when asked how he felt when Mediterranean Ices won the award he said “As it was the first time I entered our sorbet in the competition I felt overjoyed and proud that we finished in first place!”
Congratulations to Ignazio and all of the team at Mediterranean Ices!
The 2nd Sorbet Flavour for 2019 is Blackcurrant; we’re already looking forward to seeing who scoops the award next year…
