A Berkshire man who has dedicated his life to selling ice cream has been voted the best ice cream seller in the UK.
Paul Field of Maurices Ice Cream was named the UK Mobiler of the Year at The National Ice Cream Competition run by The Ice Cream Alliance - the trade body for the UK's £1bn ice cream industry.
The award is much coveted in the ice cream industry and recognises Paul's outstanding quality of service to his local community.
Paul has worked in his family's business for 35 years. He joined his father, Maurice, straight from school and has helped build the business up to have an eight strong fleet of vans.
"I love the ice cream business," said Paul who is based in Early, Reading. "I can't think of a better way to spend your life than by putting a smile on the faces of customers by serving them with delicious ice cream.
"I have never wanted to do anything else. I was driving a van as soon as I was old enough and I have never regretted it."
Paul has grown the business to the cover the whole of Berkshire and counts many local celebrities amongst his customers.
"It doesn't matter if you are rich or famous or just rubbing along - everyone loves ice cream. Celebrities such as Tony Blackburn and Debbie McGee are regular customers and I've even provided ice cream for the Prime Minister Theresa May.
"It doesn't matter who you are serving - the golden rule for success is to serve great ice cream and always be polite and reliable."
The award also recognises Paul's charity work. Last year he took part in a national ice cream give away donating thousands of free cones to children with special needs which across the country raised £5,000 for Children in Need.
"I'm overjoyed to be chosen for this award. It's a great honour for me and for my dad who started the business in 1950 and is now 82. "
Zelica Carr, Chief Executive of The Ice Cream Alliance, said:" Many congratulations to Paul. He is a wonderful example of how enthusiasm combined with dedication and great customer service can lead to outstanding success. He thoroughly deserves to be the UK's Mobiler of the Year."
The award was sponsored by Slade Edwards Insurance Brokers.
