ICA Schools Pack

As you are aware, there is a deal of concern over childhood obesity which has prompted the Government to bring in new legislation obliging schools to only provide foods that are low in fat, sugar and salt.

The latest laws came in to force in September 2007 and tighten up the rules that were introduced in September 2006 and are a prelude to even tighter restrictions due in September 2008.

Ice cream mobilers have enjoyed a good relationship with schools, parents and children for many years but this is now under serious threat with ice cream being portrayed as ‘junk food’ and the people that sell it as undermining the aim of improving the health of the nations children.

The ICA has been monitoring the developments for some time now and we believe that the best way to proceed is to cooperate with the school authorities.

The first involves understanding what the schools are being required to do and to provide them with accurate nutritional information on ice creams and lollies so that informed decisions can be made. We also believe that it is essential that the schools understand that ICA members are legitimate businesses that always try to ‘do the job right’.

To help achieve this, we have, with the valuable support of our sponsors, produced the ICA Schools Pack which mobilers and other street vendors have found very useful as both a reference and a tool.
